Most people spend a boat trip with a phone in one hand. On our boats, the crew films it for you: a 360° video, drone footage and proper camera photos are part of every trip. Here is exactly what you get and how to make the most of it.
What photo and video do you get on a Chifbay boat trip?
Every trip includes three things: an Insta360 360° video, drone footage from above (weather allowing) and high quality photos taken with a real camera. They are included on both the Day Trip and the Sunset Trip, with no add-on to book. The boat is private, up to 5 guests, so the crew can film around your group rather than a crowd.
What is a 360° video and why is it different?
A 360° video records everything around the camera at once, so the final edit can look wherever the action is. On a boat that matters: the cliff rising behind you, the laughter at the stern and the open sea ahead are all captured in a single take. Nobody has to point a lens at the right thing at the right moment, which is why it works so well for groups and families.
What does the drone footage show?
The drone shows the boat and the coast from above, which no passenger can film. The best moments are along the route we sail: the colourful roofs of Câmara de Lobos, the 580 metre wall of Cabo Girão and the pebble beach of Fajã dos Padres, with your boat as a small white shape on the blue water. Drone flights depend on wind and visibility, so we fly when it is safe, not on a fixed schedule.
Which trip gives the better photos, Day Trip or Sunset Trip?
Both are strong, for different reasons. The Day Trip (departures at 10:00 and 14:00) gives bright colour, turquoise water, and swimming and jumping shots at Fajã dos Padres. The Sunset Trip leaves 1 h 15 before that day's sunset, so the light is right all year, and it gives warm golden cliffs and a soft, glowing sea. There is no swimming on the Sunset Trip because the water is too cold that late. Not sure which to pick? Our Day Trip vs Sunset Trip comparison goes through it.
How do you get the best shots on the boat?
Wear solid, simple colours: blues, whites and reds stand out against the sea and the basalt cliffs. Avoid busy patterns and loose hats that will fly off at speed. Tell the crew in advance if there is a moment you want captured, such as a proposal, a birthday or a first jump into the water, and they will plan the shot. For the swim stop at Fajã dos Padres, keep sunglasses on a strap and ask for the camera to be ready before you jump.
How and when do you receive the files?
Your photos and videos are shared with you after the trip, so you do not need to worry about storage or battery during it. Ask your skipper on the day about timing and the format that suits you best, whether that is a ready-to-post clip or the original files.
Is it worth booking for the footage alone?
The footage is a bonus, not the reason to go. The reason is the coast: sea cliffs, hidden coves and the quiet that only a small private boat gives you. But having it all captured means you can actually be there instead of filming. You can see both packs, prices and departure times on our experiences page, with drinks and food on board on every trip.
The best photo of a trip is usually the one nobody had to stop enjoying it to take.
